Chinchillas

Charlie, Parker, Momma Chin, Pumba & Timone are lucky little chins indeed!

SARS BC was called by a man looking for a place for 5 chinchillas that his daughter had left behind. Initially he called a vet clinic looking to put them all to sleep. The clinic questioned him to see why he was requesting euthanasia. There was no reason really other than he no longer wanted to care for them. They were left with him & his wife when their daughter moved to Ontario. The couple did what they could for them but not everyone is up to caring for 5 chinchillas.

Thankfully the lady at the clinic knew of us and she gave him our number. As soon as we could we went out to get their pictures until we could find a foster home for them.

Once we were there however, we realized that the couple really had no idea had to properly care for them. Their fur was in desperate need of a dust bath. So off home with us the 5 of them went.

As of today, Pumba, Timone & Momma Chin have been placed but Charlie & Parker are still patiently waiting.

SARS is seeing an increase in the number of chinchillas needing new homes...pet stores are selling them at a reasonable cost, they are somewhat *exotic* to most pet owners and sadly once the novelty wears off, they are not expecting to have a pet that can live for 15-20 years.
