Cornelius

In June we received a call from a family who wanted to surrender an 11 year old rabbit! The family's son is now 20 and no longer interested in spending time with the rabbit and the parents go to Europe for months so no one is left to care for him anymore.

The people were nice and did keep him clean and did what they thought was best for him.

When we went to pick him up, he lived in an outdoor hutch (for 11 years ) with a wire floor (wide spaced wire - ouch) and a little sleeping area. They made the hutch with a tin roof and insulated area but it was still out in the back yard, isolated, not sheilded - breaks our hearts to think of him there for 11 years.

When we first held him, before we even saw his eye, we asked if he was blind just by the way he reacted....then we saw they eye. They said it happened 6 or 7 years ago. Bunnies and other small animals just aren't high up on the list for spending $$ on....how sad. The eye is called a "micro eye".

We don't know if he has ever been out on the grass but whenever we take him out, he loves running around. He loves his toys and being a bit of a brat. We are amazed at how much energy he has for an 11 year old rabbit. He's a good eater - the people used to grow him fresh veggies.

A wonderful bunny advocate heard of little Cornelius and decided to give this little old man a forever home! Cornelius recently even bonded with a spayed female rabbit and the two are very much in love with each other.
