Lincoln
Lincoln - never a complaint...he's just happy to be safe
and well cared for.
In 2005 we were called by one of the local
shelters about a rabbit who seemed to be in pretty bad shape. When we
first met Lincoln, it was at the shelter's animal clinic where he had
been staying since he had come in.
Boy - this poor fella has been through a lot....and yet
he is such a good bunny...never a complaint.
Lincoln was found as a
stray, running loose and running scared. He has a very old break to his
rear leg that has left it improperly healed and permanently sticking
out at a ninety degree angle. He also had a broken jaw, broken teeth,
skinned ears and the loss of vision in his one eye.
When we first brought Lincoln home, we had to make sure
he was able to get enough to eat. All of his food had to be mashed or
pureed. Thankfully he had a good appetite and he ate very well. He also
decided that he was feeling pretty good and would love to spend time
out, running around exploring. Believe it or not, he has adapted so
well to his leg injury that you hardly notice it when he gets going.
Today Lincoln is neutered and is able to eat hay
& solid foods once again. He has gained weight and is once again
able to properly groom himself so that his fur is now plush &
shiney. It took him a while to adapt to other bunnies however and it
was
about a month before we could allow him into the group pen with all of
the other bunnies. At first, we think because he couldn't see very
well, he would pick fights with any bunny that ventured too close. Now
however, he is in with the rest of the bunnies and loving all the
attention he gets from the ladies. He's even buddied up with one of our
new comers - a large New Zealand white named Wiley. The two of them
are like old pals.
Needless to say, we are pleased as punch to have seen
Lincoln heal and adapt so well. He is enjoying all of his new friends
and is available to go to a new home. If however he isn't adopted, he
is welcome to stay with us and his bunny friends for the rest of his
time.
Unfortunately Lincoln passed away in January 2007. He
had a mass in his lungs. RIP sweet guy!
