Maggie & Nemo
Maggie and Nemo were seized by the police as they were
kept outside on a deck in a bird cage. They had about a square foot
each to live in. The cage was divided in the center with a piece of
cardboard but they chewed through it and ended up having babies. They
were out in ALL the elements, heat, cold, wind & rain.
The doors were high up since it was a bird cage so the
man would reach in and pick them up then literally drop them back in. A
neighbor reported it and the police & humane society luckily
followed up on it. The man also used to keep a puppy in a box and a
hamster out on the deck as well. All were taken by the authorities.
SARS BC took them all in and had them spayed and
neutered. The babies found homes quickly but it was a different story
for Maggie and Nemo:
Their first foster home moved back to Ontario. Their
second foster home didn't have enough time. The third foster home ended
up adopting them but returned them due to allergies. A few weeks later
they came back saying that they just can't live without them and that
they would just live with their allergies but then she got pregnant and
they were once again returned to SARS BC.
But in December 2005, Maggie and Nemo were adopted by a
wonderful young woman who heard about their terrible story and couldn't
help but fall in love with them. She made the long trip from Prince
George all the way down to Vancouver to pick them up. The two cuties
are now getting spoiled rotten like they deserve and since they start a
wonderful new chapter of their lives it's only fitting that they got
new names: Nemo is now Kippes and Maggie is now known as Kalliope. We
are thrilled for these two!
