William

....sadly this posting is a memorial to little William - out of anger & frustration, we want people to know the reality of what happens to the *cute* pet store bunnies that people buy & then a few months later, they no longer want.

William came to us as a stray. We feel his story must be told and we are absolutely heart broken that we didn't even have him with us long enough to know him better. It is hard to process the fact that despite everything that he has been through - he was still a *little trooper* to the very end.

The day he came to us, and after having been to the vets for evaluation, he seemed to be doing well despite his overall condition. He was perky and ate & drank & pooped up a storm. Then after he finished eating and drinking, he'd settle in for a well deserved rest.

Little William had no muscle mass, he was only skin & bones. His hips were all wacky and he wobbled when he moved. He was yellow from the urine and even his ears were urine burnt....honestly, he was the saddest thing you have ever seen....but even in his condition he had a bright spirit that took in all the love and attention that he could.

He did well the first two days and then late one evening he began to crash. He grew weaker & weaker and we knew it was his time. Sadly he finally let go and he died in my arms. As he died he was told how beautiful he was and that we were so, so, so sorry that he had to have suffered the way that he did.

In the end, we are thankful that someone found him and brought him in. We know he's in a better place now but our anger now comes out as tears...the anger & frustration felt over watching this little one pass on is inexplicable. We wonder why such sweet little creatures had to be born into the world only to suffer so much, it's just not fair.

Domestic animals are not meant to live in the wild....they cannot survive. Please remember that setting your pet rabbit loose, doesn't make them free, it makes them food.

We know we will see William at the rainbow bridge - please keep him in your heart and send him a happy thought.
